School Charity:
We’re really pleased to share that our School Council representatives have chosen to support Home-Start Sutton as our school charity this year.
One of the reasons the children selected this charity is because they believe that supporting parents and carers has a positive impact on the children they look after. They feel that every child only has one childhood, and that it should be a happy and positive one.
After making their decision, the children took part in an assembly to learn about the fantastic work that Home-Start Sutton does to support families in our local community.
Your donations will help fund a range of support services, providing practical and emotional guidance to families who may be experiencing loneliness, hardship, or parenting challenges.
We will be collecting donations for Home-Start Sutton outside the Avenue gates from Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July, between 8:10am and 8:30am each morning.
Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for helping us make a difference!

French Trip Updates
Day 3 – French Residential

Bonjour!
The children have had another absolutely wonderful day in France, packed with exciting experiences and plenty of happy memories.
We began the day with a slight change to our original plans and made a trip to Le Touquet. The children had been eager to spend some time on the beach, and they thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to relax, play on the sand, and take part in football games and other activities together.
Afterwards, we headed to the chocolate factory, where the children learned all about the chocolate-making process. They practised their French by discussing the ingredients used in different chocolates and how they are made. They also enjoyed sampling some of the delicious produce and were very keen to answer questions correctly, with chocolate treats given as rewards! Following the tour, the children visited the shop, with many choosing some chocolates to bring home—hopefully they will survive the journey without melting!
Next, we returned to Calais for our visit to the famous Dragon de Calais. The first group were able to enjoy a ride along the promenade and experience the incredible mechanical creature in action. Unfortunately, a sudden storm with thunder and lightning meant that the second group were unable to set off on the dragon. However, the company provided them with a fantastic alternative experience. They were able to climb aboard, see the incredible robotics up close, watch the smoke effects and water sprays, and even have a go at controlling the dragon using the electronic controls. Some children were even lucky enough to sit in the driver’s seat, making it a very special experience despite the weather interruption.
After our adventures, we enjoyed a delicious evening meal at a local restaurant near Calais, followed by ice cream for dessert.
We are now heading back to the hotel, where the children will begin packing some of their belongings in preparation for our departure tomorrow. I will keep you updated with our expected arrival time via a text message from the school office once we have reached England.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of the staff accompanying me on this trip. They have been absolutely fantastic, supporting every aspect of the visit and ensuring that your children have been safe, happy and well cared for throughout. Their dedication and enthusiasm have helped make this residential such a memorable experience for everyone.

Day 2 – French Residential
.
Today has been another absolutely wonderful and action-packed day, and the children have had a fantastic time from start to finish.
We began the day with a fabulous buffet breakfast, with plenty of croissants, pancakes, fresh fruit, juices and lots of other delicious options. Needless to say, the children made the most of it and enjoyed a hearty start to the day!
After breakfast, we headed to the local town of Boulogne-sur Mer, where the children experienced a traditional French market. They thoroughly enjoyed spending some of their money and it was wonderful to see them fully immersed in French culture, exploring the stalls and experiencing the atmosphere of a local market.
From there, we walked to Nausicaa, France’s National Aquarium. It was absolutely amazing! The children have not stopped talking about the incredible tanks and fascinating sea creatures they encountered. Before we went in, we set them a challenge: if they could be any fish, which one would they choose and why? This sparked some fantastic conversations as they compared different species, considered their size, speed and special abilities, and even changed their minds several times throughout the visit. What has really stood out is just how immersed they have become in the experience and the enthusiasm with which they are sharing what they have learned.
After our visit to the aquarium, we travelled to a local boulangerie where the children had the opportunity to make bread. Under the guidance of Monsieur Bruno and with plenty of support from Mrs Asryan, they learned – entirely in French – about the four ingredients used to make bread and the process involved. They then enjoyed a delicious pain au chocolat as a well-earned treat.
We then headed back towards the hotel, stopping at a local restaurant for dinner. One child declared that it was “the best chicken burger ever,” which is certainly high praise!
This evening, the children are enjoying games of Laser Quest before returning to the hotel for a well-deserved night's sleep.
They have all had a fantastic day, are happy, well and being very well looked after. We look forward to sharing more adventures with you tomorrow!

Day 1 – French Residential

.
Bonjour!
We’ve had a fantastic first day on our French residential trip. We enjoyed a smooth journey down to Dover and boarded our ferry without any issues. By the time we got on board, the children were definitely ready for lunch!
Everyone was excited as we caught sight of Calais in the distance, and there were plenty of cheers when the children realised we were arriving in France. After disembarking, we had a short drive to our hotel, where the children found out their room groups and had time to unpack and settle in.
This evening, the children enjoyed a delicious dinner at a restaurant on the beach (see the picture of our view!) with choices including burgers, chicken, fish and chips, and poke bowls. After dinner, we headed to the bowling alley, where the competition quickly became very serious and everyone had lots of fun.
We’ll soon be heading back to the hotel to get the children settled for bed. It has been a busy and exciting day, so we’re hoping for a good night’s sleep before tomorrow’s adventures.
We look forward to updating you again tomorrow!
